The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tesla will send out a software update to fix the problems.

Fascinating that a recall can mean a mandated OTA update. Seems like that means that there’s really no onus to ensure everybody gets these updates.

Really need a new term for just OTA updates with more and more software being rolled out into cars. The title makes it sound way worse than it actually is.

It is the same thing as taking the car to the dealership to have them install the update, but without the drive. They still had to implement a fix, even if it was remote.

It is literally the same thing.

I’m willing to bet the adoption rate of ota recalls is way higher since you don’t have to a) be informed of the recall and b) go anywhere or do anything to get it, and c) dont have to hassle with cinvincing a dealership to give you a rental if the recall work takes a long time.

So, were they recalled or was it just a software update?

      That’s the same thing….

Back in the day it just meant driving to the dealer to get the ECU flashed. OTA just cuts out that drive and wait.

The car is like 90% software. There’s no such thing as “just” a software update.

Tesla full self driving is no where close to ready and actively dangerous to any one around it, including and especially the occupants. But the autopilot is pretty convient and useful. I wish they would stop calling these patches “recalls”, it’s turning the term meaningless.

Edit: “If the driver attempts to engage Autosteer when conditions are not met for engagement, the feature will alert the driver it is unavailable through visual and audible alerts, and Autosteer will not engage,” the recall document states.

    Super reasonable stuff.

I doubt if full self driving will become available within the next few decades. Tesla should call it what it is, advanced cruise control.

Major security/privacy holes in any technology should cause “recalls” too. 🤔
