It was in pretty good shape to begin with, but I cleaned it and ground some coffee and it worked great! The top nut adjusts the granule size and made it pretty fine when I tightened it.

Any of you have an older grinder that you enjoy using or tips for using them?

Is it exhausting to grind coffee ?

I’m asking because I also have a vintage coffee grinder and it’s definitely a workout

Hmm the beans don’t normally get stuck and there really isn’t a ton of resistance, so I wouldn’t call it strenuous. It feels like maybe the amount of forced to scrub a dish kind of hard. It’s not difficult, but the time it takes can be tiring if grinding a whole pot.

I’ve used a manual grinder like this for years and years. They’re built like tanks.

Good on ya for keeping a treasure alive

I tried one almost new (a “new vintage” from Zassenhaus that sells new for 80€!) and it was so miserable that I couldn’t believe it: grind setting changed while spinning and not smooth at all. Metal burrs, but unusable…

I bought an old 1950s/1960s Armin Trosser hand grinder from ebay a while ago and use it every day. Works great and looks lovely in my opinion

I’ve only tried it the one time so far but doing at a moderate pace that wasnt making me sweat and the finest granule setting was about one minute for 15g.

I have a few and it can take time depending on how much obviously, but I’ve one that I removed the handle on and replaced with a drill bit. So for laughs when someone complains, I toss it in there and grab the ol power drill lol
